What is a Pembroke
Welsh Corgi?
A
Pembroke Welsh Corgi is a medium sized dog with very short legs and
a long body. Other than a weekly bath or a little brushing, to help
their shedding, their weatherproof medium length coat requires little
or no care. Unlike its close cousin the Cardigan Welsh Corgi, the
Pembroke does NOT have a tail.
Despite
their small size Corgis are surprisingly heavy ranging from 20 to
30 pounds when full grown. They are often referred to as "a big
dog in a small package". Because of their low center of gravity
Corgis have great agility, this when combined with their astonishing
speed came in handy on the Welsh farm land where the breed was developed
primarily to herd cattle. Pembroke Welsh Corgis are included in the
American Kennel
Clubs
herding group alongside other breeds such as Collies and German Shepherds.
The
Pembroke Welsh Corgi is an excellent companion dog. It's gentle and
easy to care for nature make him a perfect pet for people of any age.
His tough and sturdy build can take on lots of child's play as well.
Corgis
are loyal and loving. They are affectionate but do not force their
affections on you. They are independent and are adept at amusing themselves
for hours at a time.
The
Pembroke Welsh Corgi is an extremely intelligent animal who learns
quickly and retains knowledge very well. Training is always on going
and must be done in a positive manner.
